Celebrating the life of

James A. Griffiths

Passed away on January 09, 2024

James A. Griffiths

James A. Griffiths, of Savannah, Georgia passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 9, 2024 with his beloved family by his side at Candler Hospital. He was 63.

Affectionately known as Jimmy to friends, he was born at the Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles, California. He moved to Murray Hill, New Jersey in 1960 where he attended the New Providence school systems; graduating from New Providence High School. He later moved to Savannah, Georgia in 1990 where he made the “Hostess City of the South” his home.

Jimmy was one of the most compassionate people, and spent much of his life assisting and supporting others as an addiction counselor with the State of Georgia. He also enjoyed cooking, and was quite skilled, later dabbling in the restaurant industry. He genuinely enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to have seen much of Europe, the Caribbean, Canada and the United States. A well versed individual, you could always count on Jimmy to strike up a conversation, or just be the ears you needed to listen to you.

He always strived to learn more and enrolled himself in courses at Armstrong University in the early 2000s for a program in pre-medical technology. An avid reader, lover of the Blues, watching the Atlanta Braves or UGA on television, trying new restaurants in town, or getting lost in space with his telescope, he cherished everything life had to offer. And he lived every moment to the fullest. But his greatest achievements and love for life were reflected in his two children, and his grandchildren.

Jimmy was pre-deceased by his parents, James Griffiths and Mary Griffiths (nee Lytwynka). He is survived by his loving daughter, Nicole Griffiths (Jeffrey Peer) of Summit, New Jersey, his son, James Griffiths (Kasey Griffiths) of Gillette, New Jersey, his grandchildren Kayla and Luke Griffiths, his dear friend, Kevin Lovett, his faithful companion, Mr. Marlin the cat, a number of close friends, and a handful of cousins in Canada.

In lieu of flowers, please honor his memory by making a donation to Mylestone Equine Rescue (Phillipsburg, New Jersey), a charity that was very close to his heart and to carry on his love for all things living.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at 11:00, Friday. April 5, 2024, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel, Savannah, Georgia, with internment at Bonaventure Cemetery.
